4D in Malaysia: how it works and where to start
4D in Malaysia is a numbers game where you pick a four-digit number from 0000 to 9999 and win if it appears among the drawn numbers. Three licensed operators run the classic game — Magnum 4D, Sports Toto and Da Ma Cai — with regular draws on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at about 7:00 pm Malaysia time, while regional games such as GD Lotto and 9 Lotto draw daily. This guide explains how the game works, who the operators are, how prizes are structured, and how to check 4D results in Malaysia without falling for the usual traps.
How 4D works in Malaysia
Every draw produces 23 winning numbers: the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize numbers, followed by 10 special and 10 consolation numbers. You choose a four-digit number, decide on a bet type, and pay a minimum of RM1 per number. If your number lands in any of the 23 positions on a Big bet, you win something; on a Small bet you only win if it lands in the top three, but the payouts are higher.
The main bet types are straightforward once you have seen them once:
- Big — covers all 23 winning numbers, lower payout per position.
- Small — covers 1st, 2nd and 3rd only, higher payout.
- iBox / Box — covers every permutation of your four digits. The price and payout depend on how many permutations your number has (24, 12, 6 or 4).
- Roll (R) — one digit is replaced with all 10 possibilities, so a single RM10 bet covers 10 numbers.
- Mbox — a mixed box option available at Magnum.

Operators and draw days
Malaysia's three licensed operators are Magnum 4D (run by Magnum Corporation, in the market since 1969), Sports Toto (Berjaya group) and Da Ma Cai (Pan Malaysian Pools, whose profits go to the Tun Razak Foundation). All three follow the same regular schedule: Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, with results out at roughly 7:00 pm MYT. Special draws are sometimes added on a Tuesday and are announced in advance.
Beyond the licensed trio, several regional and online-known games draw every day — GD Lotto (Grand Dragon, Cambodia-based) publishes around 7:30 pm, while 9 Lotto results appear between 7:00 and 7:30 pm. Sabah 88, Sandakan STC and Cash Sweep (Sarawak) operate in East Malaysia. Full timings are on our draw schedule page.
| Game | Draw days | Result time (MYT) |
|---|---|---|
| Magnum 4D | Wed, Sat, Sun | ~7:00 pm |
| Sports Toto | Wed, Sat, Sun | ~7:00 pm |
| Da Ma Cai | Wed, Sat, Sun | ~7:00 pm |
| GD Lotto | Daily | ~7:30 pm |
| 9 Lotto | Daily | 7:00–7:30 pm |
Prize table and your odds
Payouts differ slightly between operators, but the standard Magnum, Toto and Da Ma Cai rates per RM1 are consistent enough to plan around. iBox prizes are divided by the number of permutations your number has, so a number like 1122 pays more per combination than 1234.
| Prize | Big bet (per RM1) | Small bet (per RM1) |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | RM2,500 | RM3,500 |
| 2nd | RM1,000 | RM2,000 |
| 3rd | RM500 | RM1,000 |
| Special | RM180 | — |
| Consolation | RM60 | — |
The odds of any specific four-digit number taking 1st prize are 1 in 10,000. For a Big bet, the chance that your number appears somewhere among the 23 winning numbers is about 23 in 10,000. A fuller breakdown by bet type is in our 4D prizes section.
Practical tip: Before you buy, decide whether you want Big or Small — the same number can pay very differently. A RM1 Small bet on a 1st prize pays RM3,500, but if that number only appears as a special or consolation, a Small bet wins nothing while a Big bet would still pay RM180 or RM60. Match the bet type to how you actually want to play.
Checking results and claiming prizes
Official results come from the operators themselves — magnum4d.my, sportstoto.com.my and damacai.com.my — plus the results boards at outlets. Be careful with third-party "result" pages that mix in ads or fake numbers, and ignore anyone selling "prediction" formulas. No method predicts a draw; the numbers are random.
Smaller prizes, up to a few hundred ringgit, can be claimed at any outlet. Larger amounts must be collected at the operator's regional or head office with your IC and the original ticket. Tickets stay valid for six months from the draw date, and Malaysian lottery winnings are not subject to personal income tax. If you are sitting on an old ticket, our claim guide covers the steps and documents.
Playing online and staying sensible
Licensed Malaysian operators sell through physical outlets only. Online 4D is offered by international platforms that accept local payment methods such as FPX bank transfer, Touch 'n Go, DuitNow and, on some sites, crypto. If you go that route, use the "Play 4D online" button on this site to reach the platform we link to, and treat it as you would any overseas service — check the terms before depositing.
Players must be 21 or older for licensed operators, and by law only non-Muslims may play. Set a budget before you buy, never chase losses, and remember that 4D is entertainment, not an income plan.
