How to claim a 4D prize and keep all of it
If you have a winning 4D ticket in Malaysia, how you claim your 4D prize depends mainly on the amount: small prizes can usually be collected at any outlet of the same operator, while larger sums must be claimed at a regional or head office with your IC and the original ticket. The good news is that Malaysian lottery winnings are not taxed as personal income, so what you see on the prize table is what you get — provided you claim within the six-month validity period and follow the operator's procedure.
Where to claim: outlet vs head office
Every licensed operator — Magnum 4D, Sports Toto and Da Ma Cai — follows roughly the same tiered system. Smaller amounts, typically up to a few hundred ringgit, can be paid out on the spot at any authorised outlet. The outlet scans or verifies the ticket, checks your identity, and hands over the cash. This is the fastest route and works well for consolation and special prizes on a modest stake.
Once the amount crosses the outlet's cash limit, you will be directed to a regional office or the operator's head office. There, the ticket is verified through the operator's system and payment is usually made by cheque or bank transfer rather than cash. Bring your original MyKad, expect to fill in a claim form, and be prepared to wait a little while the verification is completed. If you are claiming on behalf of someone else, the operator will normally require additional documentation, so it is best to call ahead.
How long is a ticket valid?
A 4D ticket in Malaysia is valid for 6 months from the draw date. Miss that window and the prize is forfeited — there is no appeal and no late payment. This applies whether the win is RM60 or RM2,500. If you play regularly, it is worth checking your old tickets instead of letting them pile up in the car. Our guide to common 4D mistakes covers this and a few other expensive habits.
Documents and steps to bring
- Your original winning ticket — not a photo, not a photocopy. Treat it like cash until it is claimed.
- Your MyKad or passport. Winners must be 21 or older at licensed operators, and under Malaysian law only non-Muslims may buy and claim 4D.
- Sign the back of the ticket if the operator instructs you to, and keep it somewhere safe until you reach the counter.
- At the counter, present the ticket and IC. Staff will verify the draw number, the bet type and the amount.
- For large prizes, complete the claim form and provide bank details if payment is by transfer.
Prize amounts at a glance
Payouts depend on the bet type. A Big bet covers 23 winning numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 10 special and 10 consolation), while a Small bet covers only the top three places but pays more. The table below shows typical prizes per RM1 for Magnum, Sports Toto and Da Ma Cai.
| Prize | Big bet (per RM1) | Small bet (per RM1) |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | RM2,500 | RM3,500 |
| 2nd | RM1,000 | RM2,000 |
| 3rd | RM500 | RM1,000 |
| Special | RM180 | — |
| Consolation | RM60 | — |
iBox or Box entries cover all permutations of your number, so the prize is divided by the number of permutations (24, 12, 6 or 4). A Roll entry replaces one digit with all ten options for RM10. The full breakdown is on our prizes page.
Are 4D winnings taxed in Malaysia?
No. Malaysian lottery winnings are not subject to personal income tax, so a RM2,500 first prize is paid as RM2,500. There is no withholding at the counter for licensed operators. If you play through an overseas or online platform, however, the tax position may follow the rules of the jurisdiction where that operator is licensed, so check before you assume the same treatment applies. Payouts from international platforms are also usually made in the platform's own currency and converted at their rate.
Checking results and claiming online
Official results are published on the operators' own websites and apps — magnum4d.my, sportstoto.com.my and damacai.com.my — and are also displayed at outlets. Draws for Magnum, Sports Toto and Da Ma Cai run on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at about 7:00 pm MYT, with special draws on some Tuesdays announced in advance. GD Lotto and 9 Lotto draw daily, with results out in the evening. Our draw schedule lists the timings, and you can verify numbers on the results page.
Licensed Malaysian operators sell only through physical outlets, so there is no official online claim portal. Online 4D is offered by international platforms that accept local payment methods such as FPX, DuitNow, Touch 'n Go and bank transfer. If you use one, check its claim process and payout timeline before betting — it will not be the same as walking into a Magnum or Sports Toto branch. New players can start with our how to play guide.
Play responsibly and only with money you can afford to lose. 4D is a game of chance — no method, system or prediction can tell you which number will come out.
Frequently asked questions
How long do I have to claim a 4D prize in Malaysia?
Six months from the draw date. After that the ticket is void and the prize cannot be claimed, regardless of the amount.
Can I claim a big 4D win at any outlet?
No. Outlets pay smaller amounts up to their cash limit. Larger prizes must be claimed at the operator's regional or head office, usually by cheque or bank transfer, with your IC and the original ticket.
Do I need to pay tax on 4D winnings in Malaysia?
Malaysian lottery winnings are not subject to personal income tax, so the full prize amount is paid out by licensed operators. Overseas or online platforms may follow different rules.
What happens if I lose my winning ticket?
Operators generally will not pay without the original ticket, so a lost or damaged ticket usually means a lost prize. Keep your ticket safe and photograph it as a backup record.
